Can-Cer-vive
The Can-Cer-vive Ministry supports members and friends who are survivors, and/or are presently overcoming and/or encountering the many faces of cancer. The ministry plans and conducts seminars/workshops designed to explore and inform its members about matters of diet, grooming, spiritual support, care-giving/receiving and recreational activities.
Mission Statement
The Can-Cer-Vive Ministry was organized in 1994 as a support group for cancer patients, their families, and their care givers. Our goal is to educate the community about early detection and prevention; thereby helping to erase some of the unwarranted fears and myths associated with cancer.
Devise the methods for educating the community to:
- Enable them to be aware of the common cancers among African Americans: Breast, Cervix, Colon, Endometrium, Esophagus, Lung, Oral Cavity, Pancreas, Prostrate, Rectum, and Stomach.
- Enable them to be aware of how "proper diet" and "exercise" can often aid in the prevention of cancer.
- Enable them to detect the "early warning signs" of cancer.
- Be aware of the fact that even after detection of cancer, with "proper treatment," many patients still have many years of being cancer-free.
